Boss Lee

There's a building across the street being renovated and as such it is filled with workmen. I can see them cracking up laughing several times each day when The Boss does her boxing-type moves. It's usually when she's standing waiting for a print-out, she'll say "put em up!" to no-one in particular then fire off a volley of punches at an imaginary foe.

This has been going on so long I don't even notice it any more, but the reaction of the workmen, who usually momentarily down tools to stare across into our office for these demonstrations, has reminded me that it must indeed look pretty hilarious.

They miss the best bit though, where she makes loud "SHOOP SHOOP" karate-movie style overdub sounds with each punch.

  1. Any chance of a surreptitious photo of this activity? Blurred to protect your anonymity, naturally...

  2. Oh. My. God.

Are you *sure* that TB isn't some badly-written character out of a low-grade Anime cartoon? That is the only possible explanation.

  3. It sounds like some kind of horrific reverse Diet Coke break.

  4. This makes me suspect that a lot more of this stuff goes on in your office by which we would be entertained and bemused, and you've grown so acclimatised to it that only some of it registers as bizarre enough to write about.

I would love to read about the earliest days of your working hell - to find out when and how you gradually realised the depths of TB's insanity.

  5. I am one of those workmen man and I can now identify you.

Please leave £1000 in unmarked fivers in the ashtray outside your building at 10am tomorrow morning, for my continued silence.

  6. That actually makes her sound rather likable. No sense in wasting those leftover minutes. I often use that waiting time to do some push-ups or, in case there is anyone around to see me, some surreptitious Kegels.

  7. I have been watching you workmen-men too, workman-man. I saw what youse got up to with the bucket of paste last Thursday. Please leave £2000, etc. etc.

Hannah - yeah, there's so much every day goes unreported because I'd basically just be repeating myself. I mean, she still leaves a pile of ripped up paper round the bin every day, for one thing.

  8. Now I understand why you haven't quit yet. Sometimes this woman's lunacy steps into the awesome.

  9. If you hear a rattling grinding sound - that was my mind, boggling!

Seriously, us poor punters out in internet-ville think we've grasped the breadth of the woman's madness - then along you come with a phrase like:

"...several times each day when The Boss does her boxing-type moves. It's usually when she's standing waiting for a print-out, she'll say "put em up!" to no-one in particular then fire off a volley of punches at an imaginary foe."

All matter-of-fact, like throwing punches at nothing AFTER TALKING TO IT is an everyday occurrence in any decent office environment... I second Hannah's thought above, basically!

  10. Quite honestly it's the best job I've ever had, beats everything else hands down.
